2017 Summer Harp Camps with early registration deadlines

Boston University Tanglewood Institute  P. July 2-August 12, 2017 in Lenox, Massachusetts.  The Young Artists Harp Program for ages 14-19 (pre-college) is a full-immersion program providing young players a comprehensive overview of all facets of harp playing. Faculty: Ann Hobson Pilot and Franziska Huhn. Application deadline January 29, 2017.

Eastern Music Festival P. June 24-July 29, 2017 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Age 14-23. Orchestral training institute. Every student rehearses six times a week and presents a full-length concert of standard orchestral repertoire. The two Young Artists Orchestras are of equal ability; seating assignments change weekly, and students generally perform with both orchestras during the course of the Festival. They are held to the same professional standards as our faculty regarding performance, attendance, and punctuality. Students may also perform with the faculty orchestra and visiting artists. Idyllwild Arts Harp Workshop P. Session 1 July 9-22; session 2 July 23-August 5, 2017 in Idyllwild, California. Intense workshop of harp ensemble, chamber music coaching, private lessons, final recital. Recorded audition required. Limited enrollment. High school age. Instructor: Allison Allport. Illinois Summer Harp Class L, P. June 8-10, 2017 in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Instructor: Ann Yeung, An intensive three-day class with Ann Yeung that offers the possibility of morning and afternoon master classes, private lessons, harp ensemble, recitals, and the participants' recital on the final evening. Limited number of participants. or7 Priority application deadline March 1, 2017.

Interlochen Arts Camp Harp Programs P.   Intermediate Division June 24 - August 7, 2017. Interlochen, Michigan. Students work with world-renowned conductors, teachers and guest artists in private lessons, studio classes and harp ensemble. Students have opportunities to perform as soloists, in small groups and with large ensembles. Instructor: Joan Raeburn Holland. Auditions are required. 
Apply by February 1, 2017 for priority review.  

International Harp Festival L, P.  May 25-28, 2017 in Danville (San Francisco Bay area), California. Three levels of workshops; seminars; yoga; concerts. Two days of workshops for the advanced, preprofessional and professional harpist, and two days dedicated to the young student harpist. Presenters and performers include Kim Robertson, Felice Pomeranz, Frank Voltz, Julie Ann Smith Jessica Siegel, Jennifer Ellis.  Early bird registration ends March 1.

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestral P. June 25 – July 4, 2017 at Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. Students will be immersed in a collaborative musical environment alongside and mentored by a world-class symphony orchestra, under the direction of the VSO's internationally acclaimed music director, Maestro Bramwell Tovey. Participation in the Whistler Institute Orchestra, chamber music, individual and group coachings, as well as a variety of unique performance opportunities.  Whistler Institute Orchestra 2016 program includes Richard Strauss’ Don Juan. The harp students will be coached by Elizabeth Volpé Bligh.  Auditions due March 12, 2017.

Young Artist's Harp Seminar P. July 1-15, 2017 in northern Georgia. Private lessons, master classes, harp ensemble, various workshops and concerts. Two divisions: beginning to intermediate on pedal and intermediate to advanced on pedal. Faculty: Kathryn Andrews, Kristi Shade, Susan Bennett Brady, Kimberly Rowe, Emily Levin, Angela Schwarzkopf. 2017 Guest artist: Bridget Kibbey.   Applications received after March 15 will be on a space available basis.

Acadia Trad Festival L.  June 25-30, 2017. Offered by the Acadia School of Traditional Music and Arts in Bar Harbor, Maine. Classes, concerts and jam sessions in the Irish, Acadian, Cajun, Old-Time and Cape Breton styles. Harp instructor: Mairi Chaimbeul.

Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp L, P. Four sessions. Grades 9-12: June 28-July 9, and July 12-23, 2017. (Second session concentrates on developing skills for orchestral and chamber playing.) Grades 7-9: July 26-August 6 and August 9-20, 2017. In Manistee National Forest, Michigan. Five hours daily harp instruction including private lessons, harp ensemble, intensive practice, classes in theory, harp history, performance skills. Student recital. Harps provided. Bowdoin International Music Festival  P.  June 24-August 5, 2017 (3-week and 6-week sessions) in Brunswick, Maine. For serious, advanced performers of classical music. Brevard Music Center P. In Brevard, North Carolina. June 23 - August 6, 2017. Students work with and perform alongside world-renowned conductors and guest-artists. Daily orchestra & opera rehearsals, weekly concerts, private lessons & orchestral parts sectionals, mock auditions, concerto competition, chamber music (optional) and harp ensemble. Cammac Summer Program July 16-23, 2017 in Lake MacDonald, Quebec, Canada. Celtic and chamber music. Bilingual instructors. Sharlene Wallace teaches Celtic harp classes for all levels. 

Canadian International Summer Harp Institute (CISHI) L, P. July 21-28, 2017 in Caroline (near Calgary), Alberta, Canada. Intensive one-week training programme for students of all levels. All students receive private lessons focusing on technique and repertoire as well as ensemble coaching, healthy harping and daily stretch. Additional classes may also include performance preparation, orchestral rep, harmonization of lead sheets and improvisation, healthy playing depending on students’ needs. Instructors: Gianetta Baril, Judy Loman and Julia Kay Jamieson.

Celtic Harp Camp L. Celtic Harp Camp L. August 22-24, 2017 on Horn Pond in Acton, Maine.  For advanced intermediate - advanced harpers.  Instructor Maeve Gilchrist will teach warm-ups and studies, tunes and maybe songs. Central Coast Harp Workshop L, P. August 11-13, 2017 at Morro Bay, CA. Harpists of all levels and auditors. Master classes, familiar and unusual repertoire for solo harp, multiple harps and/or harp in mixed ensembles. Some scholarship aid available. Instructor: Marcia Dickstein. Coda Mountain Academy Summer Music Festival, L, P. July 23-August 5, 2017 in Fayetteville, West Virginia. Harp students ages 12-23, intermediate to advanced. Harp students will have lessons 2x weekly, work closely with other student musicians and a faculty leader in chamber music groups (harp ensemble and/or mixed instruments), and play in orchestra. Connecticut Valley Harp Intensive Summer Camp  L, P.  July 22-30, 2017 in Simsbury, Connecticut. Ages 12-20, all levels. Day and overnight available. Campers will select between a solo, ensemble-based or combined track to follow during the week plus courses in rhythm, sight-reading and technique. Crane Youth Music  P. June 25-July 8, 2017. At the Crane School of Music, SUNY-Potsdam, in Potsdam, NY. All harpists perform in orchestra, wind ensemble, master classes, harp ensemble, solo recital and private lessons. Pedal harp only, ages 12-18. Instructor: Dr. Jessica Suchy-Pilalis.

Elizabeth Hainen Harp Colony at Curtis Summerfest 2017 P. June 14-20, 2017. Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Week-long intensive program of master classes, ensemble playing, and orchestral training. Instructors: Elizabeth Hainen, Nancy Lendrim.

Evergreen Music Festival (session II)  P.  July 30- Aug. 5, 2017 at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. Week-long intensive orchestra training, choir, music theory, music history lectures, lessons, chamber music, evening recitals by students and music faculty. This program is for students entering grade 9 through age 21. Harp instructor Catherine Case.

Glissando Summer Harp Fest  L, P.  June 19-23, 2017 at the Peabody Preparatory Annapolis Campus in Annapolis, Maryland. A one-week intensive harp summer program for intermediate to advanced students of all ages, designed to assist in developing harpists through the exploration of ensemble performance, stage presence and harp maintenance. Harp in the Mountains Summer Festival 2017 L, P.  July 23-29, 2017 in Madisonburg, Pennsylvania. Camp atmosphere and intense harp study for ages 13-20. With a focus on learning together, campers work on technique and musicianship while they play, practice and perform solo and in ensemble. 2017 theme is “Let’s Dance” with music from folk dances to ballet. HarpArts Adult Study Retreat L, P. June 4-11, 2017 at American Harp Center, Petoskey, Michigan. All levels. Master classes, performance classes, practice time, and solo, duo, and trio work. Instructors: Lynne Aspnes, Rachel Brandwein, Mary Jane D’Arville.

Houston Summer Harp Festival L, P.  July 10-15, 2017 in Houston, Texas, sponsored by Houston Baptist University. For incoming 6th-graduated 12th graders.  A non-competitive week of comprehensive studies on the many aspects of the harp and its music, history and ensemble playing. International Harp Festival L, P.  May 25-28, 2017 in San Francisco Bay area, California. Daily classes in tracks for beginning, intermediate and advanced players. Classes for both the pedal and non-pedal player covering a wide range of topics including musical composition, editing and arranging, Celtic and world music, modal improvisation, playing expressively, jazz, working with composers, and more. Magical Strings Summer Harp (& Dulcimer) Camp L. July 21-23, 2017 at Magic Hill overlooking Puget Sound near Seattle, Washington. Lessons, workshops, harp history, harp circles. Midwest Harp Festival  L, P.  July 16-21, 2017 at the University of Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Open to students and harpists ages 9-adult. An opportunity for harpists to come together, take a break from the stress of life, and simply enjoy being harpists together. Ensemble, chamber music, workshops, private coaching, regulations. MPulse Harp Institute  P. July 16-29, 2017 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. For high school harpists. Performance study, including individual practice, private lessons, studio class, and harp ensemble, will be integrated with instruction in performance concentration, productive practice techniques, and the opportunity to prepare for college auditions. New Harmony Music Festival Summer School July 2 - July 9, 2017, in New Harmony, Indiana, brings teachers in traditional music, jazz improvisation, and classical music together with students who want to explore different styles of music while sharpening their principal skills. During the 5 days of classes, students can expect to study with their principal teachers during the morning and early afternoon class periods. They may also want to attend a “gypsy class” where students can join in or observe classes in other styles. Students have the opportunity to perform as a part of several casual concerts and jam sessions. Saskatchewan Summer Star Party and Harp Festival 2017  August 25 - 27, 2017 at Cypress Hills, Saskatchewan, Canada. Three days of intensive learning around Sylvia Woods’ book “The Harp of Brandiswhiere” plus a star-gazing festival with lectures on meteorites, light pollution, etc.  To register for the harp part and for more details, email Cecile Denis at$100; $150 after July 30. For more about the stars, go to  Sign up early to receive the book and get familiar with the music. Spanish Peaks International Celtic Harp Retreat and Music Festival  September 20-24, 2017 in Southeast Colorado. This is a harp retreat in the midst of a full Celtic Festival. Multi-level harp workshops and instruction. There will be 10 hours of instruction spread out over Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tutors: Kelly Stewart, Sue Raimond (who does harp therapy for animals), Jaimee Joroff and Vie Lidmark.

Summerkeys Adult Music School L. Celtic Harp workshops August 14-18, August 21-25, 2017 in Lubec, Maine. Daily private lessons, group classes, chamber ensemble opportunities. Limited to five students per week, all levels. Instructor: Haley Hewitt.

The Harp Gathering  L, but P welcome.  May (18) 19-21, 2017 in Sauder Village, Ohio. The Harp Ensemble Experience, stress-free atmosphere and close camaraderie, first-class vendor hall. The Summer Harp Academy P. July 16-23, 2017 in Lake Junaluska, NC. A comprehensive program designed to develop the versatile harpist. Participants will be able to hone their practice, performance and professional skills under the instruction of acclaimed professors Elzbieta Szmyt and Jan Jennings.
