2019 Summer Harp Camps with early registration deadlines

Boston University Tanglewood Institute  P. June 30- August 10, 2019 in Lenox, Massachusetts.  The Young Artists Harp Program is a six-week program limited to four students, enabling highly individualized and thorough instruction. Weekly lessons, chamber music, harp ensemble, and playing in the Young Artists Orchestra and Young Artists Wind Ensemble lend to a full-immersion program, providing young players a comprehensive overview of all facets of harp playing. Curtis Summerfest Harp Colony  P. July 9-15, 2019 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Ages 13 and older) The colony is a true pedagogical institution, with emphasis on individual development for promising young harpists as well as professionals. The distinguished faculty conducts an intensive program of master classes and orchestral training. Harpists looking for a rigorous program will benefit from an intensive week of orchestral training through mock audition, and master classes with Elizabeth Hainen and renowned Curtis alumna, Judy Loman (Harp ’56), culminating in a performance in the final concert. Eastern Music Festival P. June 22-July 27, 2019 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Age 14-23. Orchestral training institute. Every student rehearses six times a week and presents a full-length concert of standard orchestral repertoire. The two Young Artists Orchestras are of equal ability; seating assignments change weekly, and students generally perform with both orchestras during the course of the Festival. They are held to the same professional standards as our faculty regarding performance, attendance, and punctuality. Students may also perform with the faculty orchestra and visiting artists. Evergreen Music Festival (session II)  P.  July 28- Aug. 3, 2019 at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington, in connection with the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association. This program is for students entering grade 9 through age 21. Week-long intensive orchestra training, choir, music theory, music history lectures, lessons, chamber music, evening recitals by students and music faculty. Several works on the music list call for harp participation. Harp instructor TBA. www.tysamusic.org/evergreen-music-festival.html

Illinois Summer Harp Class L, P. June 6-8, 2019 in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Instructor: Ann Yeung, An intensive three-day class with Ann Yeung that offers the possibility of morning and afternoon master classes, private lessons, presentations, harp ensemble with a new work by Julia Kay Jamieson, recitals, and the participants' recital on the final evening. Interlochen Arts Camp Harp Programs P.  Interlochen, Michigan. Intermediate Division (students currently in grades 9-12) June 22 - August 5, 2019. Students work with world-renowned conductors, teachers and guest artists in private lessons, studio classes and harp ensemble. Students have opportunities to perform as soloists, in small groups and with large ensembles. Instructor: Joan Raeburn Holland. Auditions are required. MPulse Harp Institute  P. July 21-27, 2019 at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. For high school harpists. Intensive one week designed to enhance the technical and musical skills of the dedicated harpist. Daily private lessons, individual and guided practice time, studio classes, performance opportunities, and harp ensemble. Young Artist's Harp Seminar P. July 6-20, 2019 at Kenyon College in Ohio. Private lessons, master classes, harp ensemble, various workshops and concerts. Acadia Trad Festival L.  June 23-28, 2019. Offered by the Acadia School of Traditional Music and Arts in Bar Harbor, Maine. Classes, concerts and jam sessions in the Irish, Acadian, Cajun, Old-Time and Cape Breton styles. Harp instructor: Mairi Chaimbeul. www.acadiatradschool.org

AHS Camp Innovation L, P. June 16-22, 2019 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in conjunction with the 2019 AHS Summer Institute and National Competition.  All levels ages 12-17. Masterclasses, workshops, private lessons, world premiere performances, concerts. Faculty: Elisabeth Remy Johnson and Maria Luisa Rayan. Must be AHS member. Berklee Summer Harp Programs Three summer programs include harp: The one week Global String Intensive, June 24-June 28, 2019,  the Five Week Program July 6-August 9,  and the Berklee Summer Semester, which is a 12-week college credit program May 20 through August 9, 2019.  The students receive weekly harp lessons and coaching to accompany the ensembles and many other playing opportunities- jazz bands, rock groups, chamber music, Celtic music and ensembles, eclectic string orchestra and recording sessions. Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp L, P. Four sessions. Four sessions June 26-August 18, 2019 in Manistee National Forest, Michigan. Age range is grades 7-12. Five hours daily harp instruction including private lessons, harp ensemble, intensive practice, classes in theory, harp history, performance skills. Student recital. Harps provided. Canadian International Summer Harp Institute (CISHI) L, P. July 20-27, 2019 at Sanctum Retreat Centre in Caroline (near Calgary), Alberta, Canada, appr. 1 ½ hr. drive NW of Calgary. Intensive one-week training programme for students of all levels. Participants will receive multiple private lessons throughout the week. Students may bring solos they are currently working on or polishing, as well as something new to start. Orchestral excerpts and technical exercises may also be studied, based on student needs. Students are also encouraged to bring their own arrangements, compositions, or improvisation ideas for feedback. Depending on the number of attendees, it may be possible to book extra private lessons with faculty for an additional fee. Crested Butte Chamber Music Intensive July 8-13, 2019 in Crested Butte, Colorado. With a participant-to-coach ratio capped at 3:1, harp students receive training in a supportive and intimate environment. Elizabeth Hainen Harp Colony at Curtis Summerfest 2018 P. June 9-15,  2019. Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. The Elizabeth Hainen Harp Colony is an advanced training ground for the world’s next generation of professional harpists. Gilman School Summer Music Camp.  P, L  June 12 - 14, 2019 in  Baltimore, Maryland. Ages 9-18. We are proud to announce that this is our Fourth year! This Summer Music Camp is a great opportunity for older children, pre-teens, and teens to spend time focusing on their harp, piano, strings, woodwinds, and brass. The harp camp is designed to assist in developing harpists through the exploration of ensemble performance, stage presence, and harp maintenance.  Enrichment activities, rehearsals, and coaching will culminate with all students performing in daily concerts.  Students will be assigned ensemble partners depending on their grade and skill level. Harps in the Glen, Wisconsin L, P  August 22-25, 2019 in West Bend, Wisconsin. Adults. A 3-day harp retreat in a peaceful, rural setting with instructors Kim Robertson & Sunita Staneslow. Harp in the Mountains Summer Festival 2019.  June 23-29, 2019 in Madisonburg, Pennsylvania. Fun camp atmosphere and intense harp study for ages 13-20. Houston Summer Harp Festival L, P.  July 8-13, 2019 in Houston, Texas. Sponsored by Houston Baptist University, The Houston Summer Harp Festival brings young harpists together in a fun and educational atmosphere for a week of intense and non-competitive study of the harp, its history, and music. The festival is open to incoming 6th grade through recently graduated 12th grade lever harp and pedal harp students who are comfortable with reading bass and treble clef and have had a minimum of 6 months of harp instruction. In a relaxed atmosphere that encourages camaraderie and artistic growth, students are equipped with practical tools and experiences to become more confident musicians through ensemble playing, small group projects, workshops and master classes. Midwest Harp Festival  L, P.  July July 14-20, 2019. Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Illinois. Open to students and harpists ages 9-adult. The New Harmony Music Festival Summer School  July 7-14, 2019 brings teachers in traditional music, jazz improvisation, and classical music together with students who want to explore different styles of music while sharpening their principal skills. During the 5 days of classes, students can expect to study with their principal teachers during the morning and early afternoon class periods. They may also want to attend a “gypsy class” where students can join in or observe classes in other styles. Ohio Scottish Arts School (OSAS) L. June 22-28, 2019 at Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio. The nylon/gut harp classes will study Scottish dance music, airs, and songs, focusing on ornamentation, Scottish style, accompaniment, and learning by ear with music handed out after.
